Adobe Launches Flash Media Server 4 on AWS

Adobe Systems Incorporated, a provider of advanced graphics and media solutions, has announced that its Adobe Flash Media Server 4 software is now available on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud or ‘Amazon EC2,’ which is a part of Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) or ‘AWS.’

Useful in streaming video and social media applications, the Adobe Flash Media Server on AWS will provide the enterprises with a convenient and scalable way for delivering media experiences without having to buy a full server license. Deploying the solution, various small to mid-size publishers, social media developers and large scale enterprise deployments will be able to leverage the full benefits of Adobe Flash Media Enterprise Server 4 on a scalable and convenient pay-as-you-go model.

“Adobe Flash Media Server on Amazon Web Services helps to reduce the costs associated with deploying advanced media experiences across multiple screens, including multi-user games, video chat and video streaming,” commented David Wadhwani, senior vice president and general manager, Creative and Interactive Business Unit, Adobe. “We’re pleased to leverage Amazon Web Services to provide a flexible and cost-effective way for customers to access the rich functionality offered in Adobe Flash Media Server. From social networks to large enterprises, customers can now easily utilize the leading delivery vehicle for online video.”

Adopting a pay-as-you-go basis, Amazon Web Services offers technology infrastructure services to its customers, some of which are Amazon EC2 for compute, Amazon S3 & Elastic Block Store or ‘EBS’ for storage and Amazon CloudFront for content delivery. With the new Adobe Flash Media Server on AWS, enterprises will be able to serve live and on-demand content upon a number of multiple platforms and mobile devices. It also provides them with a host of useful features of Adobe Flash Media Enterprise Server 4, such as multicast and live packaging with HTTP Dynamic Streaming for high quality playback experiences and RTMFP technology.

“We are pleased that Adobe has launched Adobe Flash Media Server on Amazon EC2,” said Adam Selipsky, vice president at Amazon Web Services. “Amazon EC2 transforms what are historically large fixed costs into much smaller variable costs that map directly to customer use. AWS frees customers from the expenses and complexities of planning, purchasing, and maintaining computing infrastructure, and provides a way for developers to create reliable and secure streaming video experiences.”

In September 2010, Adobe Systems (News - Alert) Incorporated launched Adobe Flash Media Server 4 software for streaming video and real-time communication. Through the release, the company offered a video solution for every type of customer with three new versions, which are Flash Media Streaming Server 4, Flash Media Interactive Server 4 and Flash Media Enterprise Server 4.
