LiMo Foundation joins Linaro TSC to promote Linux-Based Devices

LiMo Foundation has joined the Linaro Technical Steering Committee (TSC) as Advisor Partner with a view to providing regular input and guidance to assist with Linaro’s planning, roadmap and operational decisions. Strongly committed to Linux and open source, the strategic alignment between these two organizations is expected to accelerate the deployment of Linux based devices into the market and will reinforce industry engagement with the open source community.

By creating new releases of optimized tools, kernel and middleware software validated for a wide range of System on Chips (SoCs), Linaro will provide a stable and optimized code base for distributions such as the LiMo Platform. This will speed up development time, improve performance and reduce engineering time spent on non-differentiating, low-level software. As a result, LiMo will be able to focus on delivering flagship user experiences on their Linux based devices.

“LiMo’s vision is to deliver a vibrant ecosystem of commercial products and services that are enabled through an independent and competitive Linux based mobile software platform developed in close collaboration with key stakeholders in the mobile industry,” said Morgan Gillis, executive director of LiMo Foundation (News - Alert), in a recent press release. “We are delighted to join Linaro’s TSC as an Advisor Partner and look forward to collaborating with Linaro in shaping up the next generation Linux ecosystem that will deliver a rich and connected user experience to consumers across a diverse range of devices.”

“Linaro was founded to accelerate open source software development on SOC’s to provide consumers with the latest generation of always-on, always-connected devices. Linaro will release optimized kernel and tools validated on multiple SOC’s every six months,” said George Grey, Executive Officer, Linaro, in a statement. “Having the LiMo Foundation as an advisor to our Technical Steering Committee ensures our engineering resources and roadmaps are aligned with industry leaders.”
