Spectrum Announces Availability of XMC-2131 High Speed I/O Module

Spectrum (News - Alert) Signal Processing by Vecima, a provider of advanced reconfigurable radio technologies that connect the complex world, has announced the availability of the new high-speed I/O module, the XMC-2131. The company has already received a million dollars worth of orders for the new module.

According to company officials, the XMC-2131 is a key component in Spectrum’s series of software defined digital radio modules from the flexComm wireless communications product line. The XMC-2131 has dual output 14-bitD/A converters, each running at up to 300 MSPS in a single-width VITA 42.0 XMC form factor. The ADCs are integrated with a single user programmable Xilinx (News - Alert) Virtex-5 FX130T FPGA device for wide bandwidth signal processing and filtering in the digital domain.

The company has claimed that the XMC-2131 is the fastest and most powerful I/O module and features a large Xilinx Virtex-5 FX130T FPGA combined with high speed dual 300 MSPS 14-bit DACs. The Virtex-5 platform FPGA combines a large amount of programmable logic, embedded Intellectual Property, or “IP,” cores, advanced clocking circuitry and embedded memory with versatile, fast interconnect structures.

Douglas Fast (News - Alert), president of Spectrum, said that customers worldwide are discovering the advantages of Spectrum and their software’ reconfigurable architecture allows the customers to add new capabilities and evolve their existing signal processing system by adopting new modules. These incremental upgrades allow their customers to extend the life of their deployed systems and customers can also reduce the time and cost of new capability roll-outs since they can reuse their software assets.

The XMC-2131 module, along with Spectrum's quicComm software development tools, provides customers with new capabilities including access to high-speed, low latency wideband signal conversion and processing. quicComm software equips users with basic link level access and control of Spectrum’s flexComm products.

The XMC-2131 is used in applications such as Signals Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, and Military Communications systems. The XMC-2131 is also available with a Xilinx Virtex-5 FX200T FPGA, and can be adapted for use with Spectrum's other product lines.

Recently Vecima (News - Alert) supplied TerraceQAM to U.S. Cable MSO and Streakwave (News - Alert) signed distribution agreement with WiMAX solutions supplier Vecima.
