Ten Information Technology Companies of 2011

Information technology companies are some of the most well-known and profitable companies in the industry today.  Companies in the IT industry manage processes in technology and telecommunications including information systems, computer hardware and software, programming languages and any additional data constructs.

With multimedia on the rise as technology is changing the way we live and work today, IT companies are more important than ever before. Below is a list of 10 prominent information technology companies (in no particular order) who are continuing to change and maintain the industry.

EMC is a global info tech provider that has its hands dipped in many different aspects of the IT industry. The company is primarily focused on storing, protecting, optimizing and leveraging information for the benefit of businesses. EMC’s customers range from verticals such as finance, education, government and environmental, among others.

Accenture (News - Alert) is a global management consulting, technology and outsourcing IT company that collaborates with its customers to help them become high-performance businesses and governments. Accenture uses its industry knowledge and technology capabilities to identify new business and technology trends and develop solutions to help its clients around the world.

Not only is Amazon one of the most popular online shopping platforms for electronics, computers and other retail items, but it is also stepping into the IT market with its cloud initiatives. Amazon Virtual Private Cloud lets you provision a private, isolated section of the Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) Cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define.

Vmware offers a plethora of different IT solutions mainly revolving around virtualization and cloud infrastructure to accelerate IT by reducing complexity and enabling more flexible, agile service delivery. Vmware provides services for SMBs and enterprises in a number of verticals such as education, government, healthcare, hosting providers and nonprofits.

Juniper Networks focuses on helping customers achieve a high-performance network for the benefit of their businesses. Juniper helps its customers stay ahead of the demands posed by the exponential growth in network users and end-points, while meeting the business imperatives for high performance, reliability and absolute security.

IBM (News - Alert) is probably one of the most well-known and earliest recognized IT companies to date. The company has been providing IT products and services for decades now and most recently has been relied on by customers for its solutions in business consulting, cloud computing, dynamic infrastructure, financing, green sustainability and service oriented architecture. IBM is one IT company that is sure to be around in the years to come.

You didn’t think we were going to get through this list without mentioning Google (News - Alert) did you? We all know that the media giant takes the cake in terms of search engines, but when it comes to IT you may not know that Google also provides enterprise web applications to help companies create productivity solutions for the success of their businesses.

Dell is another well-known and profitable IT company that has been around for more than 25 years providing its customers with computers and other technology solutions to benefit everyone from the most general computer user to large enterprises. Dell is known for its customer support and most recently has began making headlines for its participation in social media around the world and as the number one healthcare information technology service provider. 

Last, but certainly not least, Oracle (News - Alert) is a global provider of hardware and software solutions engineered to work together to integrate every layer of the IT stack to deliver compelling value, based on high system availability and security, high performance, and low TCO. Oracle's product strategy provides flexibility and choice to its customers across their IT infrastructure.

Please keep in mind, these are not the top 10 IT companies, but rather a collection of 10 of the most newsworthy IT companies of this year. There are certainly more that while they have not been mentioned does not mean they are not significant in the IT industry.
