AMD Intros ATI Radeon HD 4770 Graphics Processor

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD (News - Alert)) has claimed that its newly unveiled ATI Radeon HD 4770 graphics processor is the first 40nm GPU in the market.

AMD is a technology company that claims to have dedicated itself to collaborating with customers and technology partners to ignite the next generation of computing and graphics solutions at work, home and play.

According to AMD, the raw specs for the new GPU are a 750MHz core clock, 640 shaders, 32 texture units and 512M of 800MHz GDDR5 on a 128-bit bus. As far as silicon is concerned, the chip is built on the TSMC 40nm process, and packs 826 million transistors into 134sq.mm. Power consumption is at 80W and has third-generation hardware support for the latest DirectX 10.1 games. The card is also Windows 7 ready.

The economic downturn have made customers shift their focus from costly high end cards to effective but cheaper alternatives and AMD has responded with the launch of the ATI Radeon HD 4770, targeting this market with cutting-edge technologies like 40 nm processors, support for DirectX 10.1 gaming and GDDR5 memory which offers incredibly high data rates for fast game performance.

Other features of the ATI HD 4770 include second generation AMD Unified Video Decoder (UVD 2.0) technology, support for HDMI, picture-in-picture (PiP), and HD audio technologies like 7.1 surround sound. The UVD 2.0 technology ensures smooth video playback, crisp images, and vibrant colors on all HD content including Blu-ray discs and cinema-quality home entertainment experience from the card’s HDMI, picture-in-picture (PiP) and 7.1 surround sound features.

Companies that use DirectX 10.1 for game development will find the new ATI 4770 as a valuable tool to unlock the topnotch video game experience offered by DirectX 10.1. And also gamers looking to get the most value out of their graphics hardware investment can scale their performance using ATI CrossFireX technology, allowing a second ATI Radeon HD 4770 card to be added for a near-linear increase in performance.
