A recent survey by NxGen Modular revealed that an increasing number of data center owners and IT executives are considering modular data center solutions.
Entitled, “Mission Critical Annual Index,” the survey reveals that 85 percent of participants would consider a modular solution in building their next data center. Over 75 percent of the participants cited cost-saving, scalability and flexibility as key drivers in that decision.
A modular data center system is a portable method of data center deployment. Consisting of standardized, purpose-engineered modules and multiple power and cooling options, the modular data center systems are easier and cheaper to build. Modules can be shipped anywhere in the world and can be added to the customer’s existing data center footprint.
In its website, NxGen Modular said that it leverages latest integrated project delivery methods and offsite manufacturing and prefabrication techniques to build new age data centers. NxGen said that its proven processes are capable of eliminating thousands of work steps traditionally required to deliver a data center. As a result, modular data centers can be built at a fraction of the cost and time of the traditional alternatives.
NxGen offers a proprietary set of pre-engineered, designed and tested modules to address the specific needs of the clients. This ensures that the final product fits each client's unique situation.Currently, NxGen is leading the modular market by supporting all types of mission critical facilities that may include 5MW data center, a container with 2000 servers, a modular electrical room or anything in between.
“Compared to containers and traditional construction, the scalability and low cost structure of modular make it the latest evolution in enterprise-class data centers. This survey is part of our effort to understand industry opinion and better inform forward-thinking IT executives about modular’s ability to bring reliable data center capacity online quickly and in alignment with changing demand,” NxGen Modular president and CEO Liz Fetter noted in a statement.
Fetter pointed out that modular data centers are ASHRAE compliant and portray enterprise-class data centers in almost every way.
The survey also found that many data center operators are still not aware of the difference between containerized and modular data centers. Though four out of five participants knew the difference, half admitted that containers are still the first thing that comes to mind when they think of a modular data center. NxGen recently released a white paper, titled “The Optimum (News - Alert) Data Center: How Modular Data Centers Transcend Containers,” which addresses differences between containerized and modular data centers. It’s available for download at NxGen website.
A few months back, NxGen Modular announced the appointment of Brett Jones as its vice president of sales and business development. In his new role, Jones is leading a team that is assigned with the task of advancing a new era of mission-critical data centers.
