Microsoft Brings BlueVia to .NET Framework Developers with Telefonica

Looking to support application development across PC, TV, mobile and beyond, Microsoft has joined hands with Telefonica S.A. to provide BlueVia software development kit (SDK) for .NET (News - Alert). This new offering is powered by Telefonica’s new BlueVia developer platform.

BlueVia is the new global developer program from Telefonica that helps developers take apps, web services, and ideas to market. By plugging API’s that offer revenue share business models, the platform lets developers monetize their apps.

For the creation of Internet-scale applications with no initial investment in infrastructure required by developers, The SDK includes Windows Azure, Microsoft’s (News - Alert) open cloud platform. To help drive innovation in applications and services in a simple and frictionless way, this collaboration project combines telco functionality from Telefonica (News - Alert) with Microsoft’s experience in Web development and the cloud.

“This relationship with Telefonica is an incredible opportunity for our worldwide community of developers to build mobile applications that serve millions of customers,” said Tony Mestres, vice president of consumer channels, communications sector at Microsoft. “Given the combined capabilities – and richness – of Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft Silverlight, Internet Explorer, Windows Azure, Windows Phone (News - Alert) 7, Windows 7 and Windows Live services, we believe there are huge prospects for innovation in connected consumer experiences and the cloud.”

Offering an intuitive development environment for developers, BlueVia SDK for .NET is a set of drag-and-drop controls and templates for Visual Studio 2010. Supporting multiple developer languages including .NET, Java, PHP, Ruby, and Python, Windows Azure allows developers to host their applications in the cloud. Apps hosted on Windows Azure can also be published to Windows Phone 7, Windows 7-based PCs, slates and netbooks, Internet Explorer 9, Xbox 360, and other device platforms.

Recently, the company launched Windows Intune in India. Microsoft’s new IT solution streamlines PC and device management, and enhances productivity of remote workers for businesses of all sizes across the country. Microsoft has claimed that use of Windows Intune can help companies save large amounts of money. The company says that businesses can save up to $702 per PC per year with this new offering.
