eyeSight Unveils Software-Based Gesture Recognition Technology

eyeSight Mobile Technologies, a developer of Touch Free Interfaces for consumer electronics, unveiled a new software-based gesture recognition technology for Android (News - Alert) tablets and Windows-based portable computers.

eyeSight’s claimed that its technology powers ‘Touch Free’ UI solutions which enhance the user experience while operating devices and applications, and they enable users to use natural hand gestures to control applications, programs and tools on electronic devices such as Android tablets,  and Windows-based notebooks and netbooks.

The technology converts users’ gesture into input commands to control the device using specialized advanced image processing and machine vision algorithms, which analyze real time video input from common built-in cameras. The technology works fine even on low-end VGA cameras and does not depend too much on underlying processor and camera hardware. It utilizes the existing standard built in 2D camera, and does not require any hardware changes or an expensive 3D camera.

Officials with the company asserted that users can remotely control their music and video player, browse through eBooks, manage presentations, play games, control PC apps and carry out many other tasks without touching the keyboard or touch screen. It is ideal for functions that do not require hands-on management and offers a new and improved user experience.

Compatible with various types of devices and operating systems, the Touch Free technology is a pure software solution, highly optimized for mobile platforms, offering low CPU and memory requirements.

Some of the benefits and features of the eyeSight (News - Alert) touch free gesture recognition technology include: small footprint, very conservative power, CPU and memory consumption; indifferent to camera quality or underlying hardware; operates with constantly moving camera (such in mobile phones, portable gaming consoles, and navigation systems); simple API, facilitating easy integration with any operating system and application; intuitive user interface; works with any type of cam-enabled device and more.
