Cypress Debuts TrueTouch Solution for Multi-touch Touchscreens

Looking to improve the performance of large multi-touch touchscreens, Cypress Semiconductor has announced availability of a new, high-performance single-chip TrueTouch solution for large multitouch touchscreens up to 11.6 inches.

Offering designers with flexibility, optimal performance and quality, Cypress works closely with all the leading ITO sensor vendors, and major tablet operating systems will be supported in this family of devices, the company has stated. The CY8CTMA884 offers all the benefits users have come to expect from TrueTouch devices, including 10-finger touch support, low-power consumption, grip and palm rejection, high accuracy, and fast scan times.

Cypress’ TrueTouch Touchscreen Solutions, powered by PSoC Programmable-System-on-Chip technology, offer unmatched flexibility and the broadest portfolio available. The projected capacitive TrueTouch Solutions give designers a choice between different usage models, different touchscreen vendors and different LCD vendors, the company has stated.

“The market for tablets continues to expand rapidly, and touchscreen performance is a critical differentiator for these products,” said Derek Richardson (News - Alert), senior director of Cypress’s Large Touchscreen Business Unit. “Cypress is the first to offer a single-chip device to support this market. This continues our leadership in both small and large form-factor touchscreen solutions, as multiple tier-one customer engagements bear out.”

Along with the ability to resolve multiple fingers close together, additional sensing channels are essential for greater accuracy, linearity, support for smaller sized fingers, the company has stated. Cypress’ large-screen TrueTouch platform expands its leadership position in small-screen portable electronics -- such as handsets and portable navigation devices -- into large-screen portable PC products and tablets, the company has stated in a press release.
