By Ashok BindraThe web browser competition continues to intensify as Google and Mozilla (News - Alert) continue to improve their respective browsers, Chrome and Firefox. Latest browser market data gathered by research firm Net Applications shows in a press release, that both the key competitors to Microsoft (News
- Alert) are gaining momentum as Internet Explorer begins to slide down.
Last month’s statistics from market watcher Net Applications shows that Google's (News
- Alert) Chrome browser is slowing moving ahead to grab some share from the dominant Internet Explorer. As a result, the research firm reported that Google Chrome broke the 10 percent market share barrier last month. In fact, to be exact, Chrome accounted for 10.7 percent of the worldwide browser market.
However, the Microsoft surfing tool Internet Explorer still maintains the leadership position with 56 percent of the worldwide browser market share, according to Net Applications. Nevertheless, market analysts think that Chrome has come a long way to achieve this market performance because it started with a little over 5 percent in 2010. And the threat to the dominant player continues as evidenced by the declining business climate for Internet Explorer.
Likewise, Mozilla’s Firefox, the world's second most popular browser, continues to hang around a 22 percent market share for the seventh month in a row, according to Net Applications.

Meanwhile, the open-source Firefox is hoping to improve its market position with the release of Firefox 4, which is planned for release by Mozilla in late February. Concurrently, Microsoft is also working on releasing the Internet Explorer 9 in the near future. The IE9 beta was introduced last September. Early January, the software giant reported that IE9 beta had been downloaded over 20 million times.
Other browsers making gains in this market include Apple (News
