By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Tenable Network Security, Inc., a provider of unified security monitoring solutions, announced the launch of cloud-based Nessus Perimeter Service with flat-rate pricing.

Nessus is a vulnerability scanner from Tenable Network Security. This deployed vulnerability scanner features high-speed discovery, configuration auditing, asset profiling, sensitive data discovery and vulnerability analysis of an organization’s security posture.

Officials with Tenable said in a press release that the company is now offering the Nessus technology as a software-as-a-service or hosted model via the new Nessus Perimeter Service - for faster and easier deployments. The Nessus Perimeter Service also provides third-party audits of Internet facing infrastructures with end-to-end encryption.

Precisely, Nessus Perimeter Service is an enterprise-class remote vulnerability scanning service. It can be used to audit Internet facing IP addresses for both network and web application vulnerabilities.

Subscribers of Nessus Perimeter Service can scan any number of Internet facing sites covering a wide variety of devices, such as desktop computers, mobile laptops, iPhones, wherever convenient and all for one flat fee. In addition, subscribers can initiate scans immediately or schedule it accordingly via a simple Web browser or with the Nessus App for iPhone (News - Alert).

Officials with Tenable said that subscribers of the Nessus Perimeter Service are logged into Nessus scanners hosted in Tenable’s secure datacenter.

Apart from eliminating the need for installing, deploying or maintaining the software, Nessus Perimeter Service also offers its subscribers the ability to prepare security assessments against current PCI (News - Alert) standards

Available as a 30-day subscription at $995 or an annual subscription at $3,600, the Nessus Perimeter Service sets a new benchmark for value in the managed vulnerability assessment industry, due to its low pricing. Because, subscribers can scan as many perimeter systems as desired during their subscription period, for one flat fee.

As an introductory offer, Tenable is currently offering a 20 percent discount for subscribers who purchase an annual subscription online.

Ron Gula, CEO of Tenable, said in a statement, “This is our first SaaS (News - Alert)-based offering and establishes a foundation for Tenable to provide other enterprise-class SaaS services to our customers giving them a variety of approaches to secure their IT operations.”

In the recent news, Tenable Network Security, Inc., recently announced the version 4.4 release of its vulnerability scanner Nessus. In the latest release, Tenable has improved the reporting capabilities within Nessus, in order to assist in analysis of vulnerability scan results. Inaddition, with Nessus 4.4, users will now have access to new HTML-based executive summary and detailed summary reports.
