By Jai C.S.Winner of a Stevie Award for Customer Service earlier this year, L-com (News - Alert), Inc., the manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products is yet again in the news, this time for combining latching USB cable technology with low-smoke, zero-halogen cable to create its new CAUZALAL-xx and CAUZALB-xx products.
As indicated by the company in a release, the new products are ideal for military/aerospace applications where vibration is an issue because unlike standard USB connectors which rely on a friction fit, the latching connectors provide lock down mating retention with any USB Type-A jack.
“USB cables are important in every industry,” Steve Smith, product manager at L-com said in a press release.
“But until now we haven’t had a comprehensive USB solution for high-vibration military and aerospace applications. Our new products fill that gap,” Smith added.
L-com has long carried USB cables with latching type-A connectors but this is the first time offering these specific cables with an LSZH jacket off-the-shelf. Previous LSZH USB cable offerings did not include the latching connectors.
In other news from December 2010, The release of DG9037 series of DB37 low profile right angle adapters has been announced by L-com, Inc. Clearance in tight spaces is provided by these adapters. This is possible as cables are allowed to connect at a 90 degree angle.
Ninety-degree angle adapters have been carried for years by L-com. However, the unusual DB37 connector has been accommodated for the first time with this latest adapter. The DB37 connector is commonly used in complex instrumentation. Available in "exit 1," "exit 2," and "exit 3" styles, each adapter series comes in male to female. The cable can therefore come off the adapter in either direction. Male thumbscrews or female standoffs can be accepted by the male or female end as the hardware is reversible.
