Latest Version of Android Optimized LogMeIn Ignition Released

One of the most popular apps in the Android (News - Alert) Market, LogMeIn Ignition for Android just underwent a makeover. In a recent press release, Massachusetts’s leading remote access solution provider, LogMeIn (News - Alert) announced the launch of the latest version of this popular remote access app. In its updated version, LogMeIn Ignition is packed with a variety of new features for tablet and/or Android smartphone users. The company is offering a free update to existing LogMeIn Ignition for Android users.

In the release, LogMeIn announced the new capabilities for the app, which, according to its maker has been designed to take advantage of popular new Android tablets like the Samsung (News - Alert) Galaxy Tab. These include: Wake-On-LAN, remote sound, multi-monitor support, and more. Once purchased and downloaded from either the Android Market or the Verizon (News - Alert) V CAST app store1, a single instance of the app can be used across any of a user's supported Android devices (i.e. multiple smartphones and tablets).

First introduced in July 2010, the Android version of LogMeIn is one of the top paid productivity apps in the Android Market. The app lets users remotely access and control PCs or Macs directly from a mobile device or tablet, providing easy access to files, data and applications, from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection. The iPad optimized version of the app was released in April 2010. It is currently among the highest grossing apps in the Apple (News - Alert) App Store.

According to leading research firm Gartner, tablet shipments will reach 54.8 million units in 2011 and by 2014, it the number of shipment will exceed 208 million mark. According to Samsung, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab had surpassed the one million units sold mark, less than two months after the device first went on sale. According to LogMeIn, its popular Ignition apps build on this huge popularity of tablets that allow users access their PCs from virtually anywhere and let them enjoy the freedom of mobility without compromising performance.

“The growing popularity of tablets has introduced new demand for utilizing the capabilities of a user's PC or Mac, while also benefiting from the mobility and flexibility benefits derived from tablets. LogMeIn Ignition for Android offers a best of both worlds approach, blending mobility with performance. Our goal is simple: Give our users the freedom to access their entire digital world from virtually anywhere,” LogMeIn's vice president, Andrew Burton, explained in a statement.

In the release, the company informed that the LogMeIn Ignition for Android app can be downloaded from Google's Android Market and the Verizon V CAST market for a one-time charge of $29.99. The update is freely available to existing Ignition for Android owners.

Last month, Apple released the ranking as part of 'iTunes Rewind 2010', focused on top free, paid and top grossing apps across Apple's iOS devices. LogMeIn Ignition placed fourth overall among the top 10 grossing iPad apps and first among apps built by 3rd party developers, trailing only Apple's own Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps.
