LogMeIn Unveils New Version of Remote Access App

Allowing users to take advantage of popular new Android (News - Alert) tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, LogMeIn has introduced a new version of its remote access app, LogMeIn (News - Alert) Ignition.

Customers can install LogMeIn Ignition on their iPhone, iPad or Android device, carry it with them on a USB drive, or put it on their PC. They can also get to their information anytime, anywhere.

Offering easy access to files, data and applications, from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection, LogMeIn Ignition lets users remotely access and control PCs or Macs directly from a mobile device or tablet. Released in July 2010, the Android version of Ignition is among the top paid productivity apps in the Android Market., the company stated.

“The growing popularity of tablets has introduced new demand for utilizing the capabilities of a user's PC or Mac, while also benefiting from the mobility and flexibility benefits derived from tablets,” said Andrew Burton, LogMeIn's vice president of Access & Management. “LogMeIn Ignition for Android offers a best of both worlds approach, blending mobility with performance. Our goal is simple: Give our users the freedom to access their entire digital world from virtually anywhere.”

Released in April 2010, the iPad optimized version of the app is among the highest grossing apps in the Apple (News - Alert) App Store, the company has claimed. Apart from tablet support, the latest LogMeIn Ignition for Android update provides features such as multi-monitor switching, remote sound, and wake-on-LAN. Google's Android Market and the Verizon (News - Alert) V CAST are currently selling the LogMeIn Ignition for Android app for a one-time charge of $29.99.

Recently, Dublin City University deployed LogMeIn Rescue the flagship support product from LogMeIn to provide remote technical support for students and staff across its campus. Dublin City University is the first university in Ireland to do so. A Web-based remote support tool, LogMeIn empowers IT helpdesk staff to easily connect to a remote PC, Mac, smartphone, or tablet, without pre-installed software, and resolve any issues.
