What could you do if you had anytime access to the information and applications you needed no matter where you were working? Array Networks focuses on delivering such a service and to find out more, TMC’s Rich Tehrani recently spoke with Sunil Cherian (News - Alert), VP of Product Marketing at Array Networks. Their conversation was captured in this video.

Array Networks (News - Alert) focuses on developing applications to use anywhere and at anytime. The company started 10 years back with next-generation load balancing to ensure apps were always available. They then realized they could do with more servers and more securely, so they set out to evolve. When asked about the market changing, Cherian noted there have been ups and downs and the last 10 years has been very interesting.

When the company started in 2000, they were at the height of dot com. When the bubble burst, most of the target customers went out of business. As a result, Arracy Networks changed direction to the VPN space and went after large enterprises. Solutions today can scale up to 64,000 concurrent users, very scalable architecture. They expanded the business overseas and are now market leaders in China, Japan and Asia.

Tehrani was exited to try out the new iPad app and asked Cherian to elabore. “One of the innovations we have is called Desktop Direct,” Cherian said. “The concept behind Desktop Direct is that most of the users were using VPN for more taxing technologies were given laptops, they work from home, they download a VPN client and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”The problem with a VPN and a laptop is that 12,000 laptops disappear in U.S. airports every day.

The cost of supporting the PC or laptop that stays in the office is easier and less expensive to support. Instead of a VPN, you get a portal that allows you to power down and save power and productivity factor is higher. This solution offers remote access combined with tremendous power savings. Gives access to everything in the office environment, without actually downloading the data and if the laptop is stolen, you don’t lose the data and they cannot access the portal. As for pricing, solutions from Array Networks take about 6 months return on investment. As for what is next for the company – look for scalable solutions.
