Gateworks Launches the Laguna Network Platform

A new line of network computer boards known as the Laguna Network Platform has been introduced by Gateworks (News - Alert) Corporation, a premier provider of OEM computer solutions.

The GW2388, being the first member, is targeted for next generation high performance multi-radio wireless access points, Mesh networks, WiMax Pico base stations, 3G routers, backhauls, repeaters, VPN appliances and network attached storage devices. It features the new Cavium ECONA CNS3420 Dual Core ARM11 SoC processor operating at 600MHz, 128Mbytes of DDRII-400 DRAM, and 20Mbytes of Flash.

Four high-power Type III Mini-PCI sockets, two 10/100/1Gb Base-TX Ethernet ports with IEC (News - Alert)-6100-2/4/5 ESD, EFT and lightning protection, and a Micro SD Flash socket for on-board storage expansion, are all included in the Peripherals.

The board, through the high-power Mini-PCI sockets is allowed to support any combination of 802.11abg/n radios, WiMAX (News - Alert) radios, and other Mini-PCI peripherals. For 3G CDMA/GSM modems and PCI Express Mini Card support, an optional Mini-PCI adapter is available.

Some of the additional features include digital I/O, serial EEPROM, RS232 serial port for management and debug, programmable watchdog timer and extended temperature operation.

To provide embedded features such as real time clock, voltage and temperature monitoring, programmable front panel pushbutton switch, tamper switch, and advanced power management with programmable board shut-down and wake-up for remote sensor applications, the GW2388 also includes the Gateworks System Controller battery-backed microcontroller.

The GW2388 can also be configured with an on-board GPS receiver, dual high speed USB 2.0 host ports and a SATA port. Power is applied through a dedicated barrel jack connector or through either Ethernet connector using a passive power over Ethernet architecture.

For backward compatibility, the mechanical dimensions and front panel connector locations are compatible with the existing Avila GW2348-4 and Cambria GW2358-4 platforms.

In technology related news, 6WIND, a provider of commercial packet processing solutions has introduced the most recent and most powerful version of the 6WINDGate software for multicore processors.
