Veryant Turns COBOL Investments into Strategic Assets

Veryant is a well known COBOL and Java technology innovator. The company recently announced a new update to its isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (APS). isCOBOL APS is the company’s strong COBOL development, deployment, and modernization platform. With this latest software release, the organizations can take full advantage of the business value of present application assets with new vital capabilities. These capabilities help to customize and manage application management and modernization tasks in a better way, simplify migration to isCOBOL, and improve resource management.

By combining the optimized, business-oriented nature of COBOL with the openness, portability, and strength of Java, the isCOBOL software can be used to safeguard and extend applications. This can be done without having the need to retrain staff or rewrite code. This dominant combination helps organizations to maintain and evolve current assets with globally accessible rich Internet applications (RIA) in the cloud; localized, multi-language releases; and vibrant, database-independent distributions.

ANVA, a reputed Dutch insurance software provider, made a decision to migrate from Micro Focus ACUCOBOL-GT to the isCOBOL platform.

Roel Van Dijk, who is the CEO of ANVA said that “By partnering with Veryant, we will eliminate the need to maintain multiple user interfaces for various distribution platforms and can more easily integrate with Java and other technologies to keep our applications fresh far into the future.”

This software currently offers greater customization and control of COBOL-friendly application development tasks. The new version also offers simplified data migration and file management. An intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) has also been added to the isCOBOL ISMIGRATE utility to streamline migration from the Micro Focus Vision file system to isCOBOL JISAM or isCOBOL ISAM Server.

This GUI makes it easier to move data from indexed file systems into popular relational databases such as IBM DB2, Oracle (News - Alert) Database, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. There is also a new utility called the Veryant Graphical Indexed File Editor (or “GIFE”), which is currently available. GIFE allows developers to instantly add, delete read and modify individual records stored in an indexed file from a GUI interface.
