As part of TMCnet’s “On the Road” video series, TMC’s CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) interviewed Pete Foley, CEO of RingCube Technologies, a provider of managed, virtual workspace.
“RingCube Technologies develops a virtualized workspace,” Foley explained in the interview. “So we’re in the desktop virtualization industry.”
The company’s virtualization software platform, vDesk, enables enterprise users to securely access their complete desktop computing experience from any Windows PC, from anywhere. With vDesk, organizations can increase productivity, lower desktop management and support costs, and eliminate the performance and resource overhead commonly found with legacy virtualization approaches.
“Enterprises can separate their virtual desktop – their applications, their data, all their personal settings – from all their physical hardware,” Foley said.
It also allows enterprises to manage their workspace in a centralized manager. “You’ve got much more control on how you manage those applications, manage that data, manage those employees’ desktops,” Foley said.
Here are some benefits to the software platform:
It reduces the cost of managing workspaces.
Additional security can be implemented.
It allows for business continuity.
It allows for disaster recovery.
Users are not dependant on physical hardware so if there is a corruption, failure or broken PC you can go to the store and get a new computer. Then you can access your virtual workspace on the new computer.
It has many uses for the remote or mobile worker. “We’ve had particular success with the work-at-home model,” Foley said.
“You’ve got the ability for work-at-home employees to actually use their own PCs because you’ve got this secure, virtual workspace that sits on top of that PC.”
Foley said they have had a lot of success with call center employees.
Nor are there any limitations on the type of Apps being used – even with something like Photoshop, which is graphic intensive.
During the interview, Foley explained that the way it works is that you effectively partition the Windows operating system.
“All your computation is being done locally,” Foley said.
