Weatherproofing Solutions for Wireless Applications Introduced by 3M

A reliable weatherproofing solution from 3M (News - Alert) will help cellular operators to protect connections at cellular sites. The solution is designed for new cellular installations. Existing base stations can also use this solution to carry out repairs. 3M has launched two Wireless Weatherproofing kits. While one kit is available for general use, the other kit is for cold-weather applications.

A weatherproof seal can be created using self-fusing butyl mastic along with well-known, high quality vinyl tapes. This seal can be used by installers and line technicians for excellent resistance to environmental factors such as water, condensation, UV and sunlight. This seal also offers resistance over a range of temperatures. A reliable weatherproof seal is therefore created for cable-to-cable and cable-to-device connections.

A flexible weatherproofing solution for a wide variety of cable sizes and device configurations is provided by each kit. The kit designed for general use is the 3M General Use Wireless Weatherproofing Kit WK-100. The kit contains Temflex Vinyl Electrical Tape 1700 and 3M Butyl Mastic Tape 2212.

The kit designed for cold-weather applications is the 3M Scotch Cold Weather Wireless Weatherproofing Kit WK-101. This kit is suitable for temperatures down to 0 degrees F or -18 degrees C. Scotch 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape and 3M Butyl Mastic Tape are included in this kit. Scotch 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape is a premium grade all-weather vinyl-insulating tape manufactured in the United States.

The kits are available at the local distributors. The list of local distributors is available at the company’s website www.3M.com/Telecom. Select “Where to Buy” to get the listing of local distributors.
