Latest Zenoss Enterprise 3.0 Provides Breakthrough Features In Dynamic Service Assurance

With the release of Zenoss Enterprise 3.0, many breakthrough Dynamic Service Assurance features including a completely new user interface purpose-built for automatically and dynamically visualizing, searching, and assuring service in the dynamic datacenter. As part of this release the company Zenoss, also announced integrated support for several technologies at the forefront of the dynamic datacenter including significant upgrades to its Cisco (News - Alert) UCS, VMware, and NetApp ZenPacks.

'After following Zenoss for many years, I can say this is one of the more significant releases they've done, not only updating the current functionality adapting to newer ways of managing IT. Zenoss has put together a set of features to help IT keep up with dynamic infrastructure, be it virtualized or cloud-based,' said Michael Cote analyst at Redmonk. 'One of the more intriguing aspects of this is how Zenoss 3.0 models, updates, and then tracks various IT services running on dynamic infrastructure, allowing IT to focus on what matters most instead having to piece together the endless infrastructure parts into something meaningful.'

'Next generation IT requires next generation IT service assurance,' said Bill Karpovich, CEO at Zenoss. 'Legacy tools simply weren't designed to provide the real-time visibility and dynamic control required for the virtualized datacenter. Dynamic Service Assurance -- now available with Zenoss 3.0 -- delivers the insight enterprises and service providers need to capture the full benefit of virtualization and cloud computing.'

Enterprises have begun the journey of transitioning to virtualization and cloud computing in order to take advantage of lower costs, improved agility and increased efficiencies. However, in most cases this journey has stalled. As more of IT is virtualized, traditional service assurance approaches are not able to keep up with the increased volume, speed, and complexity of real-time configuration changes and the interdependency between physical and virtual IT assets. As a result, organizations are unable to assure service and are therefore unprepared to take on the risk associated with higher levels of virtualization without first addressing the needs of dynamic service awareness and control.

Zenoss Enterprise 3.0 is purpose-built to address the challenges of dynamic service assurance allowing enterprises and cloud service providers to accelerate the value and penetration of virtualization in their next-generation datacenters.

New next generation Dynamic User Interface is based on the input of hundreds of customers, Zenoss Enterprise 3.0 features a new workflow-based user interface that is designed to significantly simplify the usability, navigation, organization, and management of services and elements within the dynamic datacenter.

Dynamic Service Views provide a new datacenter visualization capability that lets users see all of the physical and virtual dependencies within a service. Zenoss automatically and continuously maintains the linkages so that users can easily identify shared resources that may be sources of contention and potential single points of failure.

Advanced Search provides instant Google (News - Alert)-like keyword search capabilities throughout the entire Zenoss product and is designed to simplify service analysis, especially for organizations managing large numbers of physical and virtual devices.

New and enhanced Service Assurance ZenPacks for the dynamic datacenter. These optional ZenPacks are designed to take advantage of the new functionality released in Enterprise 3.0 and include;

Service assurance ZenPack for Cisco UCS which through deep integration with the Cisco UCS XML API, Zenoss automatically discovers, links and monitors the entire UCS environment from 'Business-to-Blade.' Provides real-time performance, availability, and event management, along with configuration and workload dependency tracking for Cisco UCS-based systems.

New Dynamic Service View provides comprehensive physical and virtual cross-domain real-time visibility, streamlining problem resolution for administrators in one simple dynamic interface.

Service assurance ZenPack for VMware showcases about how New Dynamic Service View provides comprehensive visual service monitoring of an organization's entire VMware-based virtual and physical infrastructure streamlining problem resolution for administrators in one simple dynamic interface.

Expanded management capabilities including automatic discovery and inventory of all VMware infrastructure components including virtual machines, ESX servers, clusters, and data stores -- enabling users to monitor in real-time the performance of their virtual machines including memory, disk & CPU and automatically detect when virtual machines move from one VMware host to another.

Service assurance ZenPack for NetApp: Enables organizations with large numbers of virtual servers to easily identify potential causes of IO-related performance degradation. The Zenoss model has been extended to automatically maintain linkages between VMware data stores and NetApp filers, enabling administrators to be more productive with streamlined dependency navigation. Additional reports using the newly extended Zenoss model also allow easy comparison of filer, virtual host, and guest IO rates.

Expanded integration and customization through new REST API

In addition to its scriptable command line interface, interactive shell, and expansive web services API based on XML-RPC, Zenoss now offers a REST API with easily consumable XML or JSON return formats

The benefit to end users is even more flexible and simplified options for customization and rapid integration with other management tools

General availability for Zenoss Enterprise is set for July 2010.
