Alion Science and Technology has been awarded $ 6.94 million contract to support Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) with IT enhancements.
IT enhancements will provide for timely and reliable information exchanges within the agency and with the law enforcement community.
Awarded as a task order under the U.S. General Services Administration's Alliant contract vehicle, the company will support the FBI's goals for IT upgrades from the network center, through the J. Edgar Hoover headquarters building and resident agent/field offices for an enterprise-wide upgrade.
Officials with Alion Science said that when completed, the consolidated network configuration will be interfaced with other facilities, including FBI partner locations.
Company officials said that Alion's work will include program management, engineering, design implementation for both copper and fiber optics, drawing review, material management and acquisition support, risk mitigation and system support planning.
Once developed and completed, the project will provide a multilayer secure cable plant computer network service and other data networks for the FBI.
'Alion's development of critical communications capabilities and support infrastructure will enable the FBI to participate in timely information exchanges not only within the agency but with the intelligence community, local law enforcement, private corporations and ultimately the public,' said Kevin Lees, senior vice president and manager of the acquisition program management group, Alion, in a statement.
Lees said that ultimately, this work will help the FBI meet its mission objectives on counterterrorism, cybercrime and foreign intelligence service activities.
The three-year period of performance runs through March 24, 2013.
