Adaptec, Inc., a provider of data center I/O solutions, has augmented its MaxIQ SSD Caching product portfolio by adding three new MaxIQ Storage Controllers, a new MaxIQ 64GB cache performance kit, wider support for solid-state drives "SSDs", and enhanced management and analytics tools to it.
According to a press release, the expanded MaxIQ SSD caching product line provides increased performance, broad SSD support and new management tools for I/O analytics. The company's MaxIQ SSD caching products can deliver up to eight times the I/O performance of hard disk drive-only arrays, and can also reduce capital and operating expenses by up to 70 percent by allowing IT managers to build High-Performance Hybrid Arrays "HPHAs."
For those unaware, high-performance hybrid arrays are data storage arrays that comprise of both hard disk drives "HDDs" and SSDs.
Company officials said in the release that the company's MaxIQ Storage Controller family is built on the company's advanced data protection and high-performance architecture. It features Adaptec (News - Alert) Intelligent Power Management "IPM" for energy-efficiency, as well as support for all mainstream SSDs including drives from OCZ Technology and STEC. This provides IT managers with increased flexibility while designing storage systems.
The Adaptec Q-Series Storage Controller family encompasses: MaxIQ 2405Q featuring four internal ports, 800MHz processor and 128MB RAM (News - Alert) memory; MaxIQ 5805Q featuring eight internal ports, 1.2 GHz of processing power, and 512MB of DDR2 write cache; and MaxIQ 5805ZQ featuring eight internal ports with1.2 GHz of processing power, 512MB of DDR2 write cache, and zero-maintenance cache protection for battery-free data protection.
Company officials said in the release that all MaxIQ controllers offer MaxIQ Hybrid SSD read caching with support for multiple MLC and SLC SSD devices, as well as direct I/O connectivity for SATA/SAS (News - Alert) SSDs, hard drives, and tape devices. The Adaptec RAID 2405Q, 5805Q, 5805ZQ list are available for MSRP $645, $1,215 and $1,485, respectively.
Compatible with more than 300 third-party devices, the company's MaxIQ controllers can support up to 256 devices by using SAS expanders and can also support a broad range of operating systems.
Available for $1,795, the new MaxIQ 64GB cache performance kit can be paired with any Adaptec Series 5Z, Series 5 or Series 2 Storage Controller and features a 64GB Intel (News - Alert) X-25E extreme solid-state drive.
David Rudnick, president of PC Solutions & Integration, said, "The Adaptec MaxIQ SSD Caching solution allows us to convert industry-standard servers into cost-effective, high-performance, scale-out application storage appliances that help our customers save money while attaining high levels of I/O performance."
Jared Peters, vice president of sales and marketing, Adaptec. "As SSDs continue to prove their value in a wide range of enterprise, data center and other high-performance computing environments, the need for effective solutions that allow IT managers to take advantage of SSD performance benefits at the lowest possible cost is paramount."
