SafeNet Strengthens Security for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

SafeNethas announced that its Luna SA and Luna PCI Hardware Security Modules (HSM) make the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. More secure. The SafeNet (News - Alert) HSMs provides companies with a highly secure platform for storing and managing sensitive data as it works with the database management system, according to company officials.

Allowing storage of the server's master cryptographic keys and offering greater application security and performance, the integration of SafeNet's Luna SA with SQL Server 2008 R2 separates select key management functionality. The Luna PCI (News - Alert) provides added security, as well as accelerated cryptographic performance and CPU offload when embedded directly into the database server.

Enabling companies to scale database operations with confidence, improve IT and developer efficiency, and enable highly scalable and well managed Business Intelligence on a self-service basis, SQL Server 2008 R2 delivers several breakthrough capabilities.

"The SafeNet Luna SA and Luna PCI offer users of Microsoft (News - Alert) SQL Server 2008 R2 two flexible encryption options for their deployment scenarios," said Chris Fedde, president and COO, SafeNet. "With the integration of SQL Server 2008 R2, we are confident that we are further enabling customers to fully realize a seamless, security-enhanced integration, and become more compliant with government standards and regulations."

With this updated technology, the customers can meet compliance regulations, battle e-privacy issues, and operate more efficiently and at a lower cost. Integration with Microsoft applications is facilitated via the SafeNet Luna EKM, which is used to set up Extensible Key Management (EKM) for SQL Server 2008 R2. With the Luna EKM Configuration Utility, companies can set parameters required by the EKM module.

In June 2008, the company announced that its IPsec security toolkit, "QuickSec/IPsec," has been optimized for the new Intel (News - Alert) EP80579 Integrated Processor product line. Providing customers with a future-proof, massively scaleable and easy to integrate high-performance embedded security solution, SafeNet says its Toolkit implements the most current IPsec security features. According to the company, these include IKEv2, MOBIKE, a stateful TCP/IP firewall, and IPv6 support.
