BT Opts for CommVault Simpana Software to Enhance Service Levels

BT, a provider of communications solutions and services, has announced the selection of CommVault (News - Alert) Simpana software to enhance service levels for its internal and external customers and reduce operational costs.

According to CommVault, the tremendous operational and cost advantages of a holistic approach to data management come to life in Simpana software. It employs modules for Backup & Recovery, Archive, Replication, Resource Management, and Search-all built on a single unifying code base and platform.

The software modules present in Simpana share a common set of back-end services and advanced capabilities and effortlessly 'communicate' with one another through the common platform. It consists of a unified architecture which performs all data management functions quickly, easily and reliably from a single source.

BT has stated that the Simpana software also works seamlessly with their Oracle (News - Alert) systems and administrative processes, which were major considerations as the company supports massive, mission-critical Oracle databases. Simpana software is designed to streamline Oracle data management with Oracle RMAN integration to speed and simplify backup and recovery performance, providing users with real-time, secure access to business critical data. The software will help BT (News - Alert) deploy a modern, singular approach to data and information management which in turn reduces operational costs.

BT has added that the Simpana Deduplication feature will help decrease redundant data across disk storage, enabling further reductions in capacity requirements and capital expenditures.

Stan Sexton, director of Global IT Services Centre of Excellence at BT has commented that their primary goal within BT Innovate and Design is to continue to identify, design and implement solutions that further enhance the capabilities of BT's virtualized data center services. CommVault's Simpana software will be used to simplify and automate their storage backup and restore service, while delivering reduced costs and a significantly improved customer experience.

Colin Lilburn, Head IT Technical Services of BT Operate added that as one of their integrated businesses, BT Operate deploys and runs communications services for customers over BT's core network and systems. To that end, BT Operate is transforming the way they provide these IT services by increasing standardization and automation in their infrastructure operations. CommVault Simpana software will be key in enabling the acceleration of this transformation.
