Boots & Coots Selects Certeon's aCelera Sync Virtual Appliance

To optimize backup and recovery operations between its data center and remote replication site, Boots & Coots, a premier pressure control vendor in the oil and gas industry, has selected Certeon's (News - Alert) aCelera Sync virtual appliance. Certeon is one of the well known providers of virtualized WAN optimization and application acceleration.

More than 90 percent reduction in backup and replication times as well as network bandwidth utilization has been realized by Boots & Coots, using aCelera Sync software. A 50 percent savings in up-front costs by purchasing aCelera Sync as opposed to using a hardware-based WAN optimization solution has also been gained by Boots & Coots.

A suite of integrated pressure control services is provided by Boots & Coots to onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration and development companies worldwide.

Over a 20 Mbps network with 10 ms of latency, their internal disaster recovery environment between their Houston, Texas, data center and Austin, Texas, replication site was continuously moving incremental data backups.

Boots & Coots by evaluating Certeon's aCelera Sync virtual appliance software, was able to run its backup and recovery operations 3x faster than with their existing WAN optimization solution. It also managed to reduce its network bandwidth utilization from 69GB to 7.2GB.

"Backup and recovery is critical to running our oil and gas pressure control and prevention business, requiring us to continuously back up data in a constant stream. Our current network environment was not transmitting the data between our Houston data center and Austin recovery site fast enough, and we were requiring increasing amounts of network bandwidth to get the job done," Dwayne McCoy, IT manager, Boots & Coots, sates. "Certeon's expert team came to us with its aCelera Sync virtual appliance software and presented us with a far superior solution for our backup and recovery infrastructure because of its high performance, low cost, ease of deployment and excellent support."

According to McCoy, "aCelera proved to be leaps and bounds ahead of the optimization products we were using, which were incapable of delivering the performance we saw with aCelera. aCelera was easy and fast to install and provision at both the data center and the remote recovery site. In addition, everyone that I had the pleasure to work with from Certeon did an outstanding job. Moving forward, Certeon will be our only backup and recovery optimization vendor."

At the upcoming Virtualization and Cloud Conference and Expo, Tuesday, April 20, 2010, Javits Conference Center, New York City, Dwayne McCoy from Boots & Coots will be speaking along with Certeon on backup and recovery within virtualized environments.

Business continuity processes such as data backup and replication can be significantly slowed over a WAN. Longer backup windows and the need to buy more and more bandwidth to support growing amounts of backup data can be resulted from Low bandwidth, high latency, contention, and packet loss.

aCelera Sync is specifically designed to remove these network issues and enable enterprises to quickly and efficiently achieve RTO and RPO goals.

For reducing remote application response time, increasing scalability and lowering IT costs, Certeon was the first vendor to introduce a truly virtualized WAN optimization and application acceleration solution, aCelera Virtual Appliance software.

Certeon, wth the addition of aCelera Sync software, delivers the industry's first virtual appliance that dramatically reduces data backup and recovery time and lowers network bandwidth requirements for the business continuity market.

The IT managers, through aCelera Sync are able to consolidate the management of their remote business continuity environments and eliminate the costs and risks of off-site tape transport and storage.

The traffic going over the WAN is reduced by the aCelera Sync, thereby delaying additional bandwidth upgrades and associated costs.

Being nondisruptive, aCelera Sync allows backup and replication. For many of the industry's leading backup and replication solutions, including, but not limited to, products from EMC, CommVault (News - Alert), Double-Take, Dell EqualLogic, FalconStor, Network Appliance, and Symantec,  Certeon's aCelera Sync speeds remote backup.

"Mission-critical business continuity processes can be significantly slowed over a WAN, putting the enterprise at risk," Peter Dougherty, president and CEO, Certeon, states. "aCelera Sync enables enterprises such as Boots & Coots to quickly and efficiently accelerate backup and replication operations and eliminate costly network bandwidth purchases."

In related news, Certeon has announced its support for "Desktops as a Managed Service" solutions based on VMware ESX 3.5 and ESXi 3.5.
