ASUS' Netbooks Feature Smart Sensor

The netbook market boomed in 2009, tripling the number of units shipped to 30 million, according the IDC (News - Alert). And the market is expected to continue that trajectory through 2010.

ASUS is hoping to capture its own share of the market by introducing the world's first netbook- the new Eee PC 1018P- that incorporates AuthenTec's (News - Alert) TruePrint smart sensor and TrueSuite identity management software.

The AES1660 TruePrint smart sensor and complementary TrueSuite identity management software are among AuthenTec's growing consumer notebook and netbook offerings, and part of the company's strategy to introduce new sensors and software to address opportunities in this growing market segment.

The addition of the new software is designed to make ASUS netbooks capable of delivering a rich and intuitive user experience for the consumers. According to the industry experts, the integration of AuthenTec's smart sensor solutions would help ASUS strengthen their position as industry leader in the fast expanding netbook segment.

The combination of our AES1660 smart sensor and TrueSuite identity management software is specifically targeted at a rich and intuitive user experience for the consumer, and we are excited that the first netbook to integrate our TrueSuite-smart sensor solution is the innovative ASUS Eee PC 1018P," AuthenTec Vice President of PC Products, Tom Aebli said. ASUS, which is committed to introduce more innovative functions and features to their product range is confident that the integration of AuthenTec's smart sensor and TrueSuite software to its new line of netbooks will turn out to be a great success.

The Eee PC 1004DN was the world's first fingerprint-enabled netbook that incorporated AuthenTec's AES1610 sensor. The Eee PC 1018P is the second ASUS netbook to integrate an AuthenTec sensor.

At 0.7 inches (18mm) when closed, the aluminum-clad Eee PC 1018P is ASUS' thinnest netbook to date, Eee PC 1018P makes a friendly accessory for the mobile professionals.  Equipped with Windows 7 Starter, a choice of Intel's 1.6 GHz N455 or 1.83 GHz N475 Atom Processors, 1 GB of RAM (News - Alert), a 250 GB Hard Disk Drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, and a high-definition 10.1-inch screen, this ultra-thin netbook is sure to be a big hit among today's busy professionals.
