Eurotech and Intel Collaborate on Catalyst LP

Eurotech, a supplier of embedded technologies, products, and systems, has launched an extensive product roadmap based on the latest Intel Atom processor D510 with dual core capability.

This partnership includes seven-year extended lifecycle support from Intel (News - Alert), starting with the Catalyst LP, which extends the offerings of Eurotech's award winning Catalyst Module family. This new launch will be available in the first quarter of 2010.

According to company officials, this family initially began with the Intel Atom processor Z5xx series, to include the newest Intel Atom technology.

The Catalyst LP provides performance and flexibility for embedded applications that require high-speed graphics and computational power and can run multiple processes and operating systems concurrently.

Both companies expect that the medical, industrial, or security markets will prefer these features and benefit from the seven-year lifecycle support from Intel.

The Catalyst LP and other products based on the new processor will be good for markets that use sophisticated, high definition graphics, human-to-machine or machine-to-machine interfacing, and require long-term support from embedded vendors.

The Catalyst LP product line will be more attractive for customers because it offers support for Eurotech's Everyware Software Framework (ESF) on the Wind River (News - Alert) Linux 3.0 operating system.

OEMs will especially like ESF as it provides a Java-based software development environment with functionality for specific verticals. Its features allow OEMs to simplify and streamline application development and also enable them to migrate their software to next generation Catalyst platforms with a minimum of developer time.

Arlen Nipper, president and CTO of Eurotech said that this new solution will attract embedded OEMs that require the increased performance while still meeting low power requirements.

For Intel this collaboration meant shrinking packaging while increasing performance and functionality. This made the Intel Atom processor D510 a game changer for embedded applications, Nipper said.

Leveraging its power management expertise, Eurotech has designed a module with power consumption under 15W when running dual-core functionality, without sacrificing performance in other areas.

“In addition, with the extended lifecycle support from Intel, our customers can be sure that Eurotech will continue to expand our portfolio with products that fully use the processor's capabilities.”
