Data Robotics Announces Successful Shipment of 100,000 Data Storage Arrays

Data Robotics, Inc., a company that develops automated storage products, reportedly announced it has successfully shipped 100,000 units of its award-winning Drobo line of data storage arrays to its customer.

Company officials said that 2009 was its best in terms of growth and sales, with the introduction of three new Drobo products– Drobo S, DroboPro, and DroboElite. The company expanded its market focus beyond its core audience to deliver radically simplified data storage to professionals and small and medium-sized businesses.

The firm’s latest innovation, Drobo storage arrays, provides the protection of traditional RAID without the complexity. It uses BeyondRAID technology to help users from making the difficult and confining choice of “which RAID level to deploy?” by providing an unprecedented combination of advanced features and automation, including single- and dual-drive redundancy, instant expansion, self-monitoring, data awareness, self-healing, and an easy-to-understand visual status and alert panel.

It also includes a powerful desktop software utility called Drobo Dashboard that shows users what Drobo is up to and adds important functionality including firmware updates, formatting options and email alerts.

Benjamin S. Woo, program vice president of storage systems at IDC (News - Alert), said the company is leveraging its success in the prosumer market – with solutions that are focused around ease of use – to deliver business class data storage and protection solutions at a price point below competing business class products, enabling the company to experience growth and broader appeal across a variety of markets.

“Our outlook for 2010 is strong as we continue to focus on delivering unique products that cost-effectively address our consumer and business customers’ most pressing storage requirements: simplicity, scalability, and advanced data protection,” Tom Buiocchi, CEO, Data Robotics said

Officials at the company said that the introduction of the new Drobo products accelerated sales and helped the company to add more than 1,000 channel partners and achieve 70 percent sales growth in 2009.
