AMD Announces Production Release of Second-Gen ATI Stream SDK

AMD (News - Alert) reportedly announced the production release of its second-generation ATI Stream SDK which is the first production SDK for both AMD GPUs and x86 CPUs.
 
Company officials said that this release of ATI Stream SDK v 2.0 supports several ATI graphics processors including the new ATI Radeon HD 5970. This is a fast graphics card which generates five teraflops of compute power. This helps compute intensive codes to leverage the system’s resources, besides enabling developers to deliver an optimized application experience.
 
AMD released this new version so that developers, ISVs and OEMs will benefit from a production development environment that helps them to accelerate the production of applications easily. Developers can use combined CPU and GPU computing power and also utilize the heterogeneous architectures for enhancing the computing experience.
 
This release will be most helpful for the developer community, ISVs and OEMs who are desirous of leveraging the power and performance of heterogeneous architectures for the development of applications. These applications will run on all the available processors in a system, said company sources.
 
AMD will also be making regular updates along with improvements and performance enhancements. This is expected to allow developers, ISVs, and OEMs to optimize CPU and GPU utilization for their applications.
 
The production release of ATI Stream SDK v2.0 will offer support for new features like OpenCL ICD or Installable Client Driver, atomic function for 32-bit integers and a Microsoft (News - Alert) Visual Studio 2008-integrated ATI Stream Profiler performance analysis tool. Also company sources said that preview support for some features will include OpenGL and Microsoft DirectX 10 interoperability, and double-precision floating point basic arithmetic in OpenCL C kernels. 
 
The introduction of the Open CL ICD has enabled developers to support multiple vendors’ OpenCL-compliant products with their ATI Stream-enabled applications. They employ querying and selecting during runtime to target some devices. This simplifies deployment of ATI Stream-enabled applications allowing customers to use ATI Stream acceleration on different platforms.
 
Also the ATI Stream Profiler performance analysis tool helps developers using Microsoft Visual Studio to profile their applications and also take care of problems. The easy location of such bottlenecks in their code helps them to optimize and deploy their applications rapidly.
