Teliris Implements Fraunhofer IIS Technologies in 6G Platform

Teliris, a telepresence provider, has implemented Fraunhofer IIS’ (News - Alert) acoustic echo control and high performance MPEG AAC low complexity audio codec, or “AAC-LC,” technologies into its telepresence 6G platform.

According to Teliris (News - Alert) officials, the company’s 6G telepresence is an affordable platform that extends an uncompromised experience to locations anywhere in the world by reducing bandwidth and related costs. It’s a standards-based client-server software solution that is capable of taking telepresence from the heavy, hardware-reliant, high bandwidth systems typical of other vendors to a light-weight, agile solution that delivers immersive telepresence through general purpose networks, while at the same time maintaining the natural meeting experience.

As part of this platform, Teliris has now integrated two core Fraunhofer technologies to ensure superlative audio quality, system interoperability and standards compliance.

Fraunhofer has stated that their audio codec feature highest quality with minimum processing power and memory requirements. Acoustic Echo Control tackles echoes that arise from acoustic couplings between the loudspeakers and microphones of telecommunication devices. The frequency spectrum of the microphone can be modified so that the unwanted echo components from the signal transmitted to the far-end are completely inaudible.

The second technology that was installed by Teliris MPEG-2 AAC-LC is the simplest and most widely used and supported AAC profile. Despite its low computational complexity, AAC LC provides good sound quality at as low as 64 Kbps bit rate. The codec supports a range of sampling rates and bit rates. These features have made AAC LC codec a perfect solution for a variety of applications.

Teliris has stated that they are pleased to integrate the latest AAC-LC codec and Echo Cancellation technologies across their telepresence 6G platforms, ensuring their systems are standards-compliant and widely interoperable.

Harald Popp, head of the Multimedia Realtime Systems department at Fraunhofer IIS, said that Teliris’ decision to integrate their advanced audio technologies in its telepresence systems, including the acclaimed 6G, provides further confirmation that their work on perceptual coding and processing of audio signals meets the demands of high quality products.

Recently Teliris earned 'Positive' rating from Gartner and Fraunhofer IIS and VoiceAge (News - Alert) provided reference for MPEG audio codec.
