Escape Communications’ new EXM-2Le will meet the demands for high volume, lower-cost, Ethernet-only solutions by providing the dual-native TDM + Ethernet IDUs. The EXM-2Le offers a value proposition to microwave point-to-point OEMs and cellular backhaul.
The new solution provides an IDU for Ethernet-only applications as it features a fully scalable and customer configurable architecture besides it being customizable to OEM or reseller brands. It is also compatible with all major third-party Outdoor Units or ODUs, said company sources.
The key features of the Escape Communications EXM-2Le IDU are the presence of carrier-grade IDU for licensed band operation which serves ANSI and ETSI (

It also features a flexible modem and multiplexer with programmable modulations like QPSK to 256 QAM, symbol rates and FEC. The FlexBand arbitrary bandwidth selection offers flexible channel sizing up to 30 MHz. The IDU also features an embedded layer-2 switch with port-based VLAN security, rate limiting and QoS priority queueing.
The extensive link management capabilities include SNMP, custom MIB and HTTP GUI support. An optional hot-standby provides protection for 2 ODUs from a single IDU, said Escape sources.
“We are extremely proud to announce the availability of our EXM-2Le. For 11 years, Escape has been delivering advanced signal processing solutions, including high performance and customizable IDUs,” commented Michael Stewart co-founder and CEO of Escape Communications, in a release.
He added, “Being seamlessly compatible with all major off-the-shelf ODUs, our EXM-2Le allows established OEMs and start-up system providers to capitalize on the growing Ethernet backhaul market with essentially no barriers to entry.”
Escape Communications specializes in providing indoor units or IDUs, high-speed modem modules, and satcom terminals for commercial telecommunications equipment OEMs and other space and defense contractors. The company has developed an extensive portfolio of communications, signal processing, mixed-signal and embedded processor IP to suit various product solutions.
