, a supplier of end-to-end connectivity solutions for servers and storage, has released new 120 Gb/s per port InfiniBand switch systems which it claims offers high performance and efficiency, ultra low-latency and highest levels of scalability.
In a release, the company claims that these new devices -- which belong to the IS5000 switch system family -- are the fastest in the world. The switches are based on Mellanox’ (News
) InfiniScale IV switch silicon and offer the highest networking bandwidth per port to cater to the requirements of high-performance computing, cloud infrastructures and enterprise data centers.
According to Mellanox, switch systems based on InfiniScale IV can be used by network architects to construct Petascale computing systems. IT managers can build large networks that carry converged traffic with the best combination of assured bandwidth and granular quality of service. The new switch solutions reduce network congestion and the number of network cables by a factor of three enabling customers to enjoy an optimal combination of cost-effective proven performance and efficient enhancements.
In the release, John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox, said that as supercomputers scale, new challenges are created in performance and cabling. The company’s new comprehensive family of 120 Gb/s switch solutions deliver the performance, density and scalability for large-scale clusters, and provide researchers with essential building blocks for constructing the next generation of Petascale-class clusters.
The IS5000 family of switches includes a broad portfolio of Edge and Director switches supporting 120 Gb/s and 40Gb/s port speeds and ranging from 12 ports to 648 ports. The solutions allow IT managers to build cost-efficient and scalable switch fabrics ranging from small clusters up to tens-of-thousands of nodes. The integrated FabricIT fabric management software reduces management overhead by providing the essential capabilities for managing systems at scale with simplicity and flexibility.
Mellanox has stated that the new IS5000 family of 120 Gb/s InfiniBand switch systems will be available in the first half of 2010 and the pricing is available on request.
