TELEHOUSE America: NYIIX Internet Peering Exchange is 'Longest Running' Public Peering Point in the New York Market

TELEHOUSE America, a provider of dedicated data centers, international Internet exchanges and managed IT services, has announced that its New York International Internet Exchange public peering platform is now the longest running and largest public Internet exchange point in the New York metropolitan market.

The NYIIX has been a vital public IP interconnection point for global carriers, ISPs, content providers and enterprise businesses within New York, since its inception in 1996.

The NYIIX platform continues to grow with technology requirements of the industry and operates Brocade (News - Alert) RX series switches. The platform supports IPv4 and IPv6 peering connections and provides standard bilateral peering exchange and multilateral peering arrangements. NYIIX also offers private peering over VLAN for secure private peering or direct bandwidth over the NYIIX. NYIIX peering platform has more than 120 members and handles over 80 Gbps of traffic.

The NYIIX infrastructure consists of three nodes to cover three major telecommunications buildings at 25 Broadway, 60 Hudson and 111 8th Avenue, in New York. All three nodes are connected and any member can peer with any other member regardless of location.

TELEHOUSE (News - Alert) America also operates the Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX). Launched in 2000, the LAIIX provides public peering interconnectivity with its Layer-2 switch for connectivity to multiple transit providers.

In Los Angeles, LAIIX provides optimal primary and secondary IP traffic routing options with direct route server access, for highly advanced peering among multiple simultaneous network routes. LAIIX serves as a key IP peering gateway to the Asia-Pacific region.

The LAIIX infrastructure consists of two (primary and secondary) Foundry BigIron LAN switches. The LAIIX switch is interconnected to the CIIX (formerly LAAP) switch. Thus LAIIX members can peer with any members at CIIX (formerly LAAP). The address space of 198.32.146.0/24 is shared with LAAP for interoperability.

With the announcement of TELEHOUSE America’s Global Interlink services in 2008, the company interconnected its NYIIX and LAIIX platforms and has also made both peering exchanges accessible from any of the 12 Interlink PoPs throughout the world.

“With over 120 active members on NYIIX and over 55 members on LAIIX, TELEHOUSE America provides robust public peering connectivity solutions among the most prominent network operators in the industry,” said Akio Sugeno, senior director of business development, Internet Engineering & Operations, for TELEHOUSE America. “We are excited to witness the continued growth of our Internet Exchange platforms in both New York and Los Angeles and look forward to extending the NYIIX to 7 Teleport, TELEHOUSE’s Teleport Center on Staten Island in the coming months.”
