Oberthur Technologies Demos Visual Voicemail Service Running on Multimedia SIM Card

Smart cards provider Oberthur Technologies and Telefonica Spain have reportedly announced the release of a new “Visual Voicemail Service” running on Oberthur Technologies’ Multimedia SIM Card GIGANTIC WUAOW.

Oberthur officials said that its Visual Voicemail Service for mobile phones is similar to e-mail in computers. Multimedia capabilities of the GIGANTIC WUAOW SIM card are leveraged so that subscribers can play voicemails in any order, listen to messages only partially or use details such as phone numbers simply from a list displayed on the screen of their handsets. Subscribers can also store voice messages with no time limitation – thanks to the mass storage capacity of the SIM card.

“GIGANTIC WUAOW won the SESAMES award for best mobile innovation last year,” said Eric Duforest, regional managing director for Europe at the Card Systems Division of Oberthur Technologies. “We are pleased to offer, together with Telefonica Spain, this first application paving the way to a set of innovative services which provides a competitive advantage to our customers based on our GIGANTIC WUAOW platform.”
Oberthur Technologies showcased the Visual Voicemail Service during the CARTES & Identification 2009 exhibition in Paris last week.

The company said it specializes in supplying secure technologies to customers using innovation and high-quality services. It provides security and identification based on smart card technology and associated services for mobile, payment, transport, digital TV and convergence markets.

Oberthur is an international supplier of personalization solutions for secure identity documents such as passports, identity cards, driving licenses and health care cards both of the traditional type and electronic type. It also provides other associated services for both governmental and corporate markets.

As a large private security printer, Oberthur Technologies specializes in high security printing as required in the production of bank notes, checks and other fiduciary documents in over fifty countries. Oberthur provides cash protection solutions catering to the emerging market of intelligent systems to secure cash-in-transit and ATM, said company sources.

Managing a global portfolio of SIM platforms and applications, the company is able to respond to customer needs. Oberthur Technologies designs, develops and deliver state-of-the-art “Over The Air” solutions. It also provides value-added services and customer relationship management.
