Thomson's Customer Premises Equipment Receives CAT-iq1 Certification

Thomson, a provider of services to content creators, has announced that four products from its customer premises equipment portfolio have received CAT-iq1 certification.

The CAT-iq certification program promotes CAT-iq, a global technology for broadband home connectivity, to market stakeholders -- such as end users, carriers and retailers -- as a technically credible implementation of conformity to a set of standards that will add value to their industry.

The products that received this CAT-iq1 certification include a European operator’s customized gateway and handset hardware foundation running a generic Thomson (News - Alert) software release as well as Thomson’s generic TG797 DSL gateway and TH52 DECT handset products. Thomson said that this certification is recognition of its commitment to open standards as well as cutting-edge expertise in DECT (News - Alert) technology.

The THOMSON TG797 is a VoIP gateway with a complete set of voice features. By making use of USB 2.0 masters it can to connect any printer or hard disk without any problems. The 802.11n-ready solution has DECT telephony integrated into it for deploying the newest DECT services.

It is also said to be the first such platform worldwide to receive CAT-iq certification and is accompanied by a fully-featured DECT handset, the Thomson TH52. Also certified, this DECT phone is the perfect handset for family and everyday use, as it combines high quality sound and value added services with a friendly and ergonomic design.

Pascal Portelli, vice president of Thomson’s Gateways & Connected Devices division, said Thomson is an active member of the DECT Forum and as the pioneer for customer premises equipment. Additionally, he said, Thomson is acutely aware of the benefits to its customer base that such advanced home-connectivity standardization can bring. The deployment of their CAT-iq certified devices is testimony both to the quality and pioneering nature of Thomson’s broadband solutions and to the need for this important industry standard.

Thomson has added that it has already anticipated the need for a standard such as CAT-iq and with the evolving needs of network operators in mind, they are implementing CAT-iq into a significant number of products in its CPE portfolio, thus driving further interoperability between devices in the market and allowing deployment of advanced services through the interconnection of a greater proliferation of CAT- iq consumer devices with CAT-iq enabled gateways.

Recently, Tahiti Nui Satellite and Thomson launched HD services in Western Europe and Thomson signed a long-term contract with LiveTV.
