Security Depository Center of Jordan Deploys Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Red Hat (News - Alert), provider of open source solutions, has announced that Jordan’s Security Depositary Center (SDC), a non-profit public utility institution that oversees the registration and deposit of securities, has implemented Red Hat Enterprise Linux  as the foundation to its open source strategy.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is an open source application platform. On one certified platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux offers choice of applications with many certified ISV applications; deployment, including standalone or virtual servers, cloud computing, software appliances; and a range of platforms from the different hardware vendors. This gives IT departments unprecedented levels of operational flexibility. And it gives ISVs unprecedented market reach when delivering applications.

According to a press release, SDC is currently implementing various other e-services applications within an open source environment, like an e-payment system and the SDC Portal, for a wide range of electronic services. These services include enhanced account viewing, public data, statistical data, electronic initial public offering (e-IPO) and mailbox services.

Other than the advantages of working with open source, access to code, cost reduction and flexibility, SDC recognized the value of Red Hat Enterprise Linux interoperability as it deployed a range of hardware, including IBM and Dell (News - Alert).  SDC has 20 x86 servers running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux that drive a range of applications, including mail systems, its web portal and intranet.

The ability to manage its entire Linux environment from one console is the key to SDC’s technology agility and management. Red Hat Network Satellite allows SDC to investigate technical issues in a timely manner and with internal resources providing consistent run rates and performance.

“The main advantage to using open source and working with Red Hat is the flexibility to develop and maintain our technology assets internally,” explained Samir Jaradat, CEO of SDC, in the release. “Red Hat not only saves us money, but it also provides us with a level of technology sophistication and interoperability that gives us the tools to develop solutions that directly meet the needs of our business.”
