Fujitsu Intros New Ethernet Solution Offering Lower Latency and Minimal Power Consumption

Fujitsu Frontech North America has announced the addition of the XG2600 10Gb Ethernet switch to its family of XG Layer 2 Ethernet networking switching solutions.

In a release, company officials said the new 26-port XG2600 reduces overall networking costs while ensuring industry-leading ultra low latency and reduction in power consumption by more than 30 percent to less than five watts per port. The solution utilizes SFP+ optical modules and is designed for use with SFP+ twinax copper cables.

Fujitsu (News - Alert) XG family of high-speed Layer 2 switching solutions is characterized by superior throughput, ultra low latency, flexible interfaces and extremely low failure rates in a compact form factor, say Fujitsu officials.

These Ethernet switches are ideal for video server applications, high performance computing and the Internet SCSI (iSCSI) and Networked Attached Storage (NAS) markets.

An important enhancement provided in the XG2600 is the use of SFP+ optical modules and support for SFP+ twinax copper cables. This feature enables customers to cost effectively maximize the use of each available port and minimize the overall cost of energy and cabling, say Fujitsu officials.

Power consumption in XG2600 is reduced with the help of field-reversible cooling fans. Also, the low-power, 1U high form factor allows for easy integration into existing networks and system chassis, making it an ideal solution for energy and cost conscious customers.

Talon Data Systems has been using Fujitsu XG series of Ethernet switches to offer high-performance networking solutions to support the storage, video and high-performance computing processes of its customers.

In the release, Tom Shearer, president and founder of Talon Data Systems, said the Fujitsu XG series of Ethernet switches offer unmatched performance and extremely low latencies meet their customers' needs.

“The XG2600 retains high-performance and low-latency while reducing power consumption and minimizing overall costs--two very important benefits to our valued customers in the film and video marketplace,” Shearer said.

Fujitsu is demonstrating the XG2600 along with its other networking solutions at SC09, November 14-20, 2009 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

Jim Preasmyer, director of sales and business development, Advanced Technology Group (News - Alert), Fujitsu Frontech North America, said the company has rolled out the XG2600 to deliver the industry leading low latency and performance capabilities while reducing the overall solution costs including power and cooling.

In October, Fujitsu Frontech North America announced its IP-900 series of compact MPEG-4 AVC encoders and decoders for efficient, real time transmission of high definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) content over IP networks.

The IP-900 significantly reduces the cost of transporting digital content over satellite and terrestrial links. They are highly suited to mobile and transportable applications in news gathering and other remote event applications, company officials said.
