Etisalat (

will use Zhone’s new MXK intelligent terabit access concentrator for its major FTTx network expansion throughout the United Arab Emirates.
Zhone Technologies (

Alert) delivers multi-service access solutions. This Middle East provider will also use solutions from two other major suppliers, and, simultaneously, deploy MXK with zNID optical network terminals to business and residential customers.
In an effort to serve its residential subscribers, Etisalat will install GPON that will help them provide broadband and a full suite of consumer voice and enhanced video services to target segment. By using GPON on the MXK platform, Etisalat will be able to provide a suite of sophisticated services, including advanced call processing and ultra high-speed data, to businesses throughout the region.
Saleem Al Marzooqi, senior vice president/network development for Etisalat appreciated Zhone’s FTTx solution that has given them unprecedented scaleable bandwidth, robust network control and the ability to serve more customers with greater efficiency.
“Our rigorous and extensive side-by-side lab trials proved the MXK’s superior performance — and its well-designed architecture makes it among the top future-proof platforms on the market,” Al Marzooqi said.
Etisalat has to deliver a variety of advanced services over a large GPON deployment and thus it needs high performance traffic management and security resources such as GEMs, VLANs, and priority tags. Zhone’s new MXK platforms demonstrated sheer bandwidth in rigorous Etisalat testing but the service intelligence also had to maintain the robust network control and security.
Mike Scheck, vice president of international sales for Zhone Technologies noted that the MXK platform with their SLMS access operating system software and complementary zNID ONTs are ideal for all-IP networks and intelligent traffic management of massive amounts of bandwidth.
“Etisalat’s network is a model application of the new benchmark we’re setting for scaleable, manageable, and service-rich networks, and we’re honored that our solution was selected,” Scheck added.
