FiberHome Selects Vitesse Carrier Ethernet Chipset

FiberHome Technologies, a global provider of networking infrastructure solutions, reportedly has selected Vitesse’s Carrier Ethernet chipset for its FonsWeaver ASON line of Multi-Service Transport Platforms, providing highly-intelligent, cost-effective Ethernet services in metro and backbone networks.

Vitesse officials said that the Vitesse Carrier Ethernet solution for FiberHome comprises its multi-channel Ethernet Media Access Controllers with integrated SerDes and advanced Quality of Service, plus its Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH Mappers with extensive performance monitoring features.

Company officials said that by using Vitesse’s Carrier Ethernet transport solutions, FiberHome will enable telecom service providers to carry diversified services with high reliability and availability.

The solutions facilitate Carrier-class metro Ethernet-over-SDH networks, supporting full rate Ethernet services such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet.

“Vitesse’s advanced Carrier Ethernet chipset is one of the elements powering FiberHome’s FonsWeaver ASON solution, a family of products and services that provide network operators with maximum flexibility in the ever-changing network service mix faced with increasing capacity demands,” said Zhang Fan, project manager at FiberHome, in a statement.

Fan said that Vitesse enables the company to deliver a proven solution with industry-leading performance for a compelling packet optical transport platform that cost effectively meets the customers’ exacting requirements.

“Vitesse is playing a central role in the creation of leading-edge technology critical to making Carrier Ethernet ubiquitous throughout the metro and backbone networks,” said Andy Ebert, senior product manager for Vitesse.

Ebert said that FiberHome’s FonsWeaver ASON line is a robust solution that delivers an exceptional experience for the end-user. It exemplifies how the company’s technology can be used, he added.

Vitesse designs, develops, and markets a diverse portfolio of high-performance, cost-competitive semiconductor solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks worldwide.
In October Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation announced the successful co-simulation and interoperability of Vitesse’s next-generation XAUI and VAUI interfaces with Dune’s XAUI, SPAUI and RXAUI interfaces.

When using the complementary and now interoperable product offerings from Vitesse and Dune, telecom OEMs can confidently shorten their design schedules and increase the possibility for first-time success when building high-performance Ethernet switches and routers for the Enterprise, data center and Carrier Ethernet markets from merchant silicon.
