Odyssey Announces v3.0 of Console Extensions for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager

Enhancing the remote device management capabilities of its enterprise-class mobile device management (MDM) products, Odyssey Software (News - Alert) has announced version 3.0 of its console extensions for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and Systems Management Server 2003.

According to officials with Odyssey, the new version offers total support for Windows Mobile or Windows Embedded CE devices.

System Center Configuration Manager 2007 helps companies to assess, deploy, and update their servers, clients, and devices. Optimized for Windows and extensible beyond it, the offering makes it possible to gain enhanced insight into, and control over, IT systems.

The new console extensions offer a ‘Phone (News - Alert) Feature Pack,’ which allows for better management of QoS from carriers and a ‘Positioning Feature Pack’ which makes it possible to improve logistics and security for devices with an onboard GPS receiver.

“Analysts have predicted that by 2011 upwards of 75 percent of employees nationally, and one billion workers worldwide, will be classified as mobile," said Mark Gentile, CEO of Odyssey Software.

"A comprehensive mobile device management solution will be essential for organizations to maximize their return on investment. These new extensions underscore our commitment to meet customer needs by leveraging existing infrastructure, providing rich management capabilities and minimizing costs.”

Other features like the ‘Security Feature Pack’ in Athena's new console extensions offer the ability to lock, and if necessary, completely wipe data from devices in case they are stolen while a ‘Help Desk Utility’ feature allows support personnel to take action on Athena managed devices without requiring an IT administrator to provide administration rights.
