Atheros Solutions Optimize Connectivity for Acer PC Platforms

Atheros, a provider of technologies for wired and wireless communications, has announced that it’s XSPAN and Align 802.11n solutions are enabling optimum wireless and wired connectivity for Acer’s PC platforms.

According to officials with Acer, the company has integrated Atheros’ (News - Alert) designs for PCs in its new Aspire Timeline thin-and-light notebooks, Aspire One netbooks and Aspire Revo nettop models.

XSPAN 2-stream 11n PCIe solutions from Atheros offer 300 Mbps data rates required for advanced multimedia networking in several Acer (News - Alert) notebook, netbook and nettop platforms.

Also, the Align single-stream PCIe solutions, which are based on the 802.11n specification, offer up to 150 Mbps data rates for robust data networking in Acer’s base model netbooks.

“Acer’s Aspire Timeline (News - Alert) thin-and-light series are among the most energy-efficient notebooks available,” said David Lee, assistant vice president, Mobile Computing Business Unit for Acer. “Atheros WLAN and Ethernet technologies enable significant power reductions, and when combined with Acer's additional power-saving features, extend battery life enabling the new thin-and-light notebooks to run all day on a single charge.”

The Atheros 11n technologies have been incorporated in PC platforms globally as well as in infrastructure equipment for retail, enterprise and carrier gateways for homes. This 11n ecosystem of APs and clients enable end-to-end connectivity enhancing the wireless experience of users.

Kishore Jotwani, senior director of marketing and product management for Atheros explained that PC platforms for consumers evolve rapidly to meet changing user requirements which results in growing demand for netbooks and notebooks like Acer’s thin-and-light models.

XSPAN, Align and ETHOS families support Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS, Linux and Android (News - Alert) operating systems. They also feature support for industry standards WMM like Wi-Fi Multimedia, Wi-Fi Protected Setup via Atheros’ JumpStart for Wireless, standardized simple network configuration software and it is also compliant with Cisco (News - Alert) Compatible Extensions.
