Chelsio 10G Ethernet Adapters Qualified for VMware Ready Status for ESX 4.0

Chelsio Communications (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet, or “10 GbE,” networking and storage systems, announced that its single- and dual-port 10 GbE adapters have achieved VMware Ready status for VMware ESX 4.0.

VMware is a software company specializing in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter. VMware Ready assures interoperable and optimized server, storage, networking, management, appliance and cloud offerings for the VMware platform. This program is a co-branding program for qualified partner products and is a benefit of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner, or “TAP,” program.

"We are pleased that Chelsio Unified Wire adapters qualify for the VMware Ready(TM) logo, signifying to customers that it has passed specific VMware testing and interoperability criteria and is ready to run their mission-critical business applications and operations," said Bernie Mills, senior director, alliance programs, VMware.

Chelsio has been offering a wide range of 10 GB Ethernet adapters in the industry based on its third-generation Terminator 3 ASIC. The VMware Ready certification indicates that Chelsio Unified Wire adapters have passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by VMware and is now listed on the VMware Hardware Compatibility List.

According to Chelsio officials, passing this extensive VMware-specified testing helps ensure that its adapters make best use of VMware technology and are ready for deployment in customer environments.

“The VMware vSphere platform is the primary choice for helping customers address the space, power, cooling and management issues with their data center infrastructure,” Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO at Chelsio Communications, said.

“VMware and Chelsio are a powerful combination that enables end-users to achieve high throughput within their virtualized environments and opens the way for new network-intensive applications,” Naghshineh added.

Designed for virtualization at the silicon level, Chelsio's adapters enable line-rate performance for transmit and receive. Chelsio's T3 architecture is said to deliver a high volume of transactions per second. Other than VMware virtualization support, Chelsio's T3 technology provides support for RDMA, iSCSI, TOE, Traffic Management and packet classification too, company officials said.
