Hewlett-Packard Selects NextWindow Touch Screens for 'All-in-One' Desktop Computers

NextWindow has reportedly been selected by Hewlett-Packard for its recently released computers. Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert)  is using NextWindow touch screens in its new TouchSmart 300, TouchSmart 600 and 9100 "all-in-one" desktop computers.

The new computers are part of HP's third generation all-in-one PC. NextWindow touch screens were also used in the first two generation HP TouchSmart products. According to Al Monro, CEO of NextWindow, three years after being chosen for the first TouchSmart computer, HP had the confidence to include NextWindow in its latest and greatest all-in-one PC. This underlines the significant resources invested in the development of NextWindow’s relationship with HP.

According to market research firm Gartner, about 10 percent of new PC models by the end of 2009 will support touch screen technology. PC makers have started choosing NextWindow because its touch screens are certified for use with Windows 7, the first operating system to support multi-touch functionality and also because NextWindow optical touch technology offers the lowest price and the best performance for touch screens 17-inches and larger.

NextWindow's technology uses optical sensors to detect the touch point so that the touch registers just before the physical touch on the screen. Users can apply zero or light touch to the screen to initiate a response. NextWindow does not use surface coating overlays on the touch screen surface. This, in turn, creates a crystal clear image. In addition, scratches on the touch surface will not affect the touch screen operation. This is important for high-use environments like a lobby or kiosk.

Moreover, optical imaging provides a solution without calibration drift. This means that once the touch screen has been calibrated it will not require any further adjustment, thereby resulting in virtually zero maintenance costs.

NextWindow is a designer and manufacturer of optical touch screens for integration into all-in-one computers, computer displays and large format screens. A leader in Optical Touch technology, NextWindow helps OEMs, ODMs and resellers add touch screen capability to their products that is accurate, clear as well as economical. The company’s scope includes high-volume, cost-effective manufacturing for PCs as well as customized solutions for kiosks, digital signage, and interactive education.

Founded in 2001, the company has offices in New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore and the U.S.
