PCT International Intros New Fiber Mini-Node

PCT International, a manufacturer of last mile and access network solutions for broadband communications networks, has reportedly developed a mini-fiber node for deep fiber HFC applications that is said to combine the advantages of an internal coupler and the company's Burst Mode technology.

"In the 10 years since we created the industry's first mini-node, we've worked closely with the cable engineering community on technological advances and new types of installations," said Brandon Wilson, executive vice president, product management and marketing for PCT International (News - Alert), in a release. "Our latest version doubles the service footprint opportunity with a given number of fiber strands and leverages Burst Mode's RF detection capabilities to minimize unnecessary laser activity, significantly reducing plant noise."

Created for single-fiber installations, the new PCT-BPFN products are specifically designed for higher-density locations where the availability of fiber may be limited.

As stated in the release, the new PCT-BPFN products, splits wavelengths internally to reduce the amount of fiber needed in RFOG and FTTx deployments and they continue to provide the low-noise, highly-responsive performance that Burst Mode enables. By splitting wavelengths within the mini-node, PCT International is eliminating the need for separate forward and return fiber strands, or for the installation of a separate, external coupler.

The new product is designed to meet or exceed SCTE standards for RF detection and is said to support frequencies up to the industry norm 1 GHz. The product features high performance over an extended range of optical signal levels, high degrees of operational flexibility and a compact form factor that reduces space considerations and simplifies installation in smaller deployments.

Reportedly, PCT International will demonstrate the new mini-node as part of its HFC and optical fiber solutions at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo to be held Oct. 28-30 in Denver.
