IBM Helps IDEA Deliver Content Services in India

IDEA Cellular will reportedly use IBM’s Service Delivery Platform to deliver innovative messaging and WAP-based content services to its more than 50 million subscribers over 2G and 3G wireless networks in India.

 

IBM (News - Alert) has signed a seven-year contract with IDEA and this allows the service provider to use IBM's SDP to integrate content and applications across all of its service lines. This in turn will help them deliver a consistently high-quality user experience and rapidly bring new services to the marketplace.

 

According to company’s sources, IBM will be responsible for the overall operations and management of the SDP. IBM will also deliver a number of SDP services to IDEA including:

 

 This agreement allows IDEA subscribers to easily access multiple channels such as SMS, MMS, WAP and Web. IBM said they will also provide around the clock monitoring and management from a central BSS network operating centre.

 

Content providers will benefit from the implementation of SDP as it allows them to publish content once and distribute through multiple channels. Users will also be able to accomplish bulk uploading of content, along with protection of digital content.

 

Moreover, IBM’s SDP will support 3G services and be compliant to upcoming mobile number portability.

 

IDEA has a rapidly growing subscriber base, noted Prakash Paranjape, chief information officer for IDEA Cellular (News - Alert). They will use IBM's SDP to further enhance their proximity with subscribers, and provide impetus to innovative initiatives targeted at their valued customers.

 

Ashish Kumar, general manager, global technology services, IBM India/South Asia, said this is a milestone deal because it strengthens the partnership with IDEA Cellular and also further instills their trust in them as their preferred partner.
