WISeKey Partners with Datang Telecom for Fast Deployment of Securely Encrypted SIM Cards

WISeKey, a Swiss information security and identity management company that specializes in security technologies for data protection, has announced that a partnership with Datang Telecom, a telecom provider for enabling secure identity encryption services within the next generation subscriber identity modules or ‘SIM’ cards.
 
The new service has been code named as TrustedSIMSecurity, and it will change the role SIM cards play in the global economy and international development. WISeKey, which has its base office in Geneva has claimed the SIM cards digitally-encrypted by its technology will be able to facilitate transactions both financial and social like shopping and the sharing of photos and videos, and will play a vital role in transforming the mobile industry in developed and developing countries.
 
The SIM cards encrypted with the TrustedSIMSecurity technology incorporate secure digital identification capabilities and services, which turns them into mass-market smartcards. These services offer seamless integration of identity, such as a key, with the personal information a user, e.g. password.
 
The TrustedSIMSecurity technology developed by WISeKey offers high degree of flexibility, as it can be embedded in an application, saved within the memory of the SIM card of the phone, or can be associated with innovative online authentication mechanisms like SSL certificates. The highly secure e-Identity of the end-customer offers him the freedom to set his profile and enjoy value-added services too, through the technology. The company has said that beginning the fourth quarter of this year, the technology will be progressively adopted by telecommunications companies.
 
According to Carlos Moreira, Chairman and CEO, WISeKey, the company feels that deploying the next generation of SIM cards with its digital identification technologies and services will have very positive result on the growth of transactional services of all types, including e-government services and remittances. Moreira added that everyone in society wins when a new service cn substantially reduce the risks of identity theft, counterfeiting and corruption like WISeKey’s smart SIMs do.
 
Shanzhi Chen, CTO of Datang Telecom Group, a Chinese provider of smart cards, said security encryptions for their cards is a top priority that could provide significant growth to their business in the long-term. Chen noted that strong encryption features will add value to Datang’s solutions for its customers, which include mobile operators, government agencies, and companies of all sizes.
 
In September last year, WISeKey announced to provide its advanced mobile payment technology with an aim to target more than 100 million people in the Mediterranean region, who were already connected via voice with their mobiles phones, but didn’t have access to mobile payment facility.
