Kyocera Releases SLH Series of High-Speed, High-Resolution LED Printheads

Kyocera (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of advanced ceramics products, announced that its newly developed SLH-Series LED printhead has achieved the world’s fastest electrophotographic printing performance with 180m/min in 1200 dpi high-resolution, according to a research conducted by the company as of October 1, 2009.
 
The SLH Series LED Printhead features a 600×36×83 mm size, and currently is being manufactured at the Yohkaichi Plant of Kyocera located in Shiga Prefecture of Japan. The component deploys an advanced high-intensity 1200 dpi LED chip that has been recently developed by Kyocera.
 
The chip produces four times more light than Kyocera's conventional models, at 150µW with 1mA drive current. The device consumes low power and offers high-resolution printing at the world’s fastest speed of 180m/min, which in a general sense means it can print more than 1,000 sheets of standard A4 size paper per minute. It consumes just a quarter of the power of its predecessors operating at the same printing speed.
 
The printhead comprises amorphous silicon photoreceptor drums which receive light input from the high-intensity LED chips. This drum is a photo conductor that revolves inside a printer and transfers toner to the paper, and plays an important role in high-speed electrophotographic printers. Kyocera uses amorphous silicon in manufacturing the photoreceptor drum that makes it a component with long service life, although previously it was a consumable item.
 
Earlier, the printers used to face memory image and sensitivity shortage problems, which have been eliminated by the use of LEDs. The change has led to the successful development of high-speed, high-resolution LED printheads. The company had begun supplying LED printheads for office document equipment in the year 1992. Kyocera hopes to launch the SLH-Series LED printhead in April 2010, along with a package of amorphous silicon photoreceptor drum for high-speed printing.
 
In the month of August 2009, Kyocera Mita America, a core company of Kyocera Corporation had launched a series of advanced applications utilizing HyPAS (Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions) for its line of TASKalfa multifunctional devices. The powerful and scalable HyPAS software solution platform optimized the performance of Kyocera’s Multi Functional Peripherals or ‘MFPs’ through custom, integrated software applications.
 
Later in September this year, the company developed the industry's first wavelength-selective crystal half- wave plate for multi-use and simultaneous use of three wavelengths.
