Limelight Networks Unveils XD Global Network Platform with Adaptive Intelligence Layer

Limelight Networks, Inc. has introduced XD, a global network platform with added “Adaptive Intelligence” to the scaled infrastructure. The company also announced the release of LimelightDELIVER XD and LimelightCONTROL XD.

The two new services leverage Adaptive Intelligence to provide advanced levels of control, performance and insight into real-time delivery conditions, said company sources.

“Content and applications are moving beyond the PC to smartphones, TVs, gaming consoles, widgets, and other connected devices,” said Nathan Raciborski, co-founder and chief technology officer at Limelight Networks (News - Alert), Inc., in a release. “With each device having its own unique characteristics, the historical industry approach of selecting the right server is no longer enough to achieve maximum performance on a consistent basis.”

Nathan added, “With XD, we are combining network innovations and advanced software to actively manage each object delivery in real-time on a per-connection basis, ensuring a brilliant user experience across a wide variety of devices, even under extreme and changing network conditions.”

Company sources explained that XD is the next step to Limelight Network’s operating environment which has powered the company’s content delivery service for past eight years. XD goes further than just delivery and supports storage, analytics and computing subsystems required in the value-added services of the future.

Adaptive Intelligence forms the core of the XD Platform. It is a software layer which leverages the globally distributed computing resources of the company to manage the delivery of every object in real-time.

Data is collected regarding unique conditions such as content type, network connection and user location for each delivery request and the settings are adjusted dynamically by the Adaptive Intelligence at the edge server. This helps streamline and also accelerate each and every delivery noted company officials.

Limelight delivery services based on the XD platform will benefit customers by offering greater delivery speed, consistent delivery and better quality of experience.
