Symwave and MCCI Achieve Data Transfer Speeds with New USB System

Symwave, a fabless semiconductor company and MCCI, a developer of USB drivers and embedded software, have partnered to demonstrate high performing USB 3.0 system that can transfer data at speeds over 270 MB/s.

Both the companies have demonstrated the high-speed data transfer abilities of their systems at the Intel (News - Alert) Developers Forum using a commercially available computer and solid state drive, or “SSD,” combined with MCCI’s optimized USB 3.0 host software and Symwave’s USB 3.0 SuperSpeed SATA controller.

According to Symwave officials, they are developing a suite of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 compliant products that are capable of delivering 10 times the speed of current USB devices and are tweaking them so that the USB 3.0 systems can be deployed in a range of external storage, mobile phones, camcorders, digital cameras and other applications that require very high-speed data transfer capabilities.

MCCI has claimed that it is working closely with Silicon OEMs and USB 3.0 IP providers to maximize reliability, performance and interoperability. The company’s offering spans the range from PC Host drivers to Embedded Device and Embedded Host support, as well as supporting the new UASP high performance mass storage class and advanced development and validation tools.

Terry Moore, CEO of MCCI, said that, with over 600 million devices deployed with MCCI USB software, the company understands what can be achieved by combining best in class SoCs and software.

Symwave’s storage controller was the obvious choice to demo the results that can be achieved when MCCI’s solutions and complementary USB expertise is combined.

The USB 3.0 technology can be used by device manufacturers and software developers to capitalize on the huge market opportunity based on differentiating features and performance.

Yossi Cohen, CEO of Symwave, said that achieving this type of performance by collaborating with MCCI shows that excellence breeds excellence. The Symwave storage controller was architected to offer their customers unmatched performance and a platform for advanced features and storage product evolution. MCCI has partnered with them to unleash the performance of their device significantly beyond what the existing USB 3.0 host software solutions achieve.

Symwave’s USB 3.0 storage controller was recently chosen by the HotChips Symposium program committee and SMSC and Symwave joined forces to capitalize on growth of USB 3.0.
