Experian Enhances its Identity Theft Protection Product, ProtectMyID.com

ConsumerInfo.com, Inc., an Experian company, reportedly announced new enhancements to ProtectMyID.com Web site, its multilayered identity theft detection, protection and fraud resolution product.

ProtectMyID.com was designed specially to safeguard consumers from identity theft and its damaging effects. The new product enhancements included in the Web site include Active Internet Scans which can search for key indications of fraudulent use of debit card, credit card and Social Security numbers.

Notification alerts will be given to members whenever a change of address is asked for. This allows members to verify if the change initiated is legitimate or whether it was made by someone else. Members can also opt to receive notification alerts by e-mail, text messages or U.S mail.

ProtectMyID.com monitors credit reports of its members at all three credit bureaus. It offers access to U.S. Fraud Resolution Agents who assist members in resolving identity theft issues or when a member’s wallet is stolen or lost said company sources.

According to the news release members can offer identity theft protection to their children via ChildSecureSM for an additional fee. ProtectMyID.com Guarantee will also cover losses and expenses incurred due to failure of the product and it may also reimburse for stolen funds from unauthorized ATM, or card transactions.

“Identity theft continues to be a problem, and simply checking your credit report once a year isn’t enough to protect yourself against the financial loss and emotional strain that accompanies this crime,” said Jennifer Leuer, general manager of ProtectMyID.com. “While no one can ever entirely prevent identity theft, they can take steps to educate and protect themselves and get dedicated help if a theft occurs.”

Identity theft is a serious issue and consumers tend to give away critical information like data of birth, credit card number and other personal information while applying for loans, or on social networking sites unknowingly. Such critical data can be used by identity thieves to empty bank accounts and cause serious financial problems, said company officials.

Linda Foley, founder of the Identity Theft Resource Center said that if a person monitors his/her credit by subscribing to a daily identity monitoring service, like ProtectMyID.com then it is possible to detect changes made to personal information immediately and prevent identity theft proactively.

Experian provides data breach resolution services to several companies and government agencies besides protecting millions of consumers from identity theft.
